Accomplishments & Evolving

  • 1992 Recognition by the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ) as a bona fide professional association.
  • 1993 Formulation the standard of care, holding the first annual conference, recruiting almost 100 members and drafting the constitution and by-laws.
  • 1993 Publication of the first Newsletter.
  • 1999 Changing the name from “Quebec Post Anesthesia Nurses Association” to “Quebec Perianesthesia Nurses Association” to reflect more clearly the scope of practice of the specialty.
  • 1999 Participation in the nationalization meeting of the PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association.
  • 1999 Recognition of Perianesthesia Nursing as a separate specialty from the Operating Room. On the OIIQ Web Site, in the directory of Quebec nurses’ associations and groups ("Répertoire Association et regroupements d’infirmières et d’infirmiers au Québec"), there is an index Perianesthesia Care ("Soins périanesthésiques").
  • 2000 Contribution to the updating of the program “L’infirmière virtuelle – en téléconsultation” of the OIIQ.
  • 2001 Changing QPANA’s logo on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.
  • 2006 Meeting with the OIIQ to discuss about QPANA’s Standards for Practice.
  • 2008 Affiliation with NAPANc (National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association of Canada).
  • 2008-2018 Participation active in the revision of the National Standards for Practice.
  • 2009 Contribution active to the first edition of the French National Standards for Practice.
  • 2009-2014 Involvement active in the process of obtaining a National Certification of Perianesthesia Nursing
  • 2010 Launching of the QPANA’s bilingual Web site.
  • 2010 Working in collaboration with the OIIQ, the CIISOQ (Corporation of Quebec Operating Room Nurses)  and the RIPAC ( First Surgical Assistant Nurses Group) on a document concerning the nursing activities that are carried out in the continuum of perioperative care.
  • 2011 Working in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) and a committee of experts composed of personnel from the OIIQ, the CIISOQ, the Directorate General of Health Services and of Academic Medicine (DGSSMU), the Quebec Order of Auxiliary Nurses (OIIAQ), the Quebec Association of Health and Social Services (AQESSS), and the Centre for Health and Social service (CSSSS) in the development of an E-learning hybrid training program in perioperative nursing care.
  • 2011 Participate in the organisation of the first International Conference for Perianesthesia Nurses (ICPAN)
  • 2012 Launching of the QPANA Facebook page to facilitate and encourage networking.
  • 2014-2016 Working in collboration with the NAPANc in the production of the Study Guide for the CNA Perianesthesia Certification Examen
